Norman was born and raised in Virginia.  However, his maternal grandparents were from Durham and they always told him that if he moved to North Carolina he would want to stay.  They were right- he's been here since 1980, serving churches in Orange County and Elon before coming to Temple in 1999.  Norman earned degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Tennessee, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He was an elementary school teacher and an administrator with Social Security prior to his call into the pastoral ministry.  Norman and wife Judy have two grown sons living in the state.  They also have a big hairy dog named Kirby!

A Southern California native, Scott worked as a campus minister before substantiating his religious profession in seminary.  It was Duke Divinity School that lured Scott, to North Carolina.  Scott has two wonderful and energetic boys- Marco (8) and Ryon (4).  While Scott is lost in conversations about NASCAR and southern cuisine he has grown to love living in the Bull City. 

Vangie Poe has served as organist at Temple since July 1969, having served the first 20 years as church secretary as well.  She is a graduate of Duke University with an A.B. degree in piano performance, and she has also done graduate work in music at UNC-Chapel Hill and continuing education in organ at Montreat Worship and Music Conference each summer.  Her responsibilities at Temple include accompanying the preschool, children's, youth, and adult choirs and assisting with the young ringers and adult handbell choirs.

 

In addition to her work at Temple, Vangie serves as preschool teacher for three-year-olds and school-wide music teacher at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Weekday School, accompanist for the Durham Children's Choir, and private piano teacher.  She also sings with the Choral Society of Durham, directed by Rodney Wynkoop.
